Our duty as human beings is to become like trainers who keep their animals in check, and even teach them to perform tasks alien to their bestiality. (Ton Nakajima)
This is a quote from 'Tropical Malady', directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, kindly recommended by Hae-Jin. Now I also know that the VIENNALE 2010 trailer was made by him. It made me think about another trailer of this small film festival, from 2008, made by Godard. Both very beautiful i think ...
'Empire' by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and 'Une Catastrophe' by Jean-Luc Godard.

thanks for that Lina,
ReplyDeleteI especially like the trailer by godard
googled it to find out which films exactly he uses in it
found this blog post which is really informative http://cinemasparagus.blogspot.com/2008/10/une-catastrophe.html
the intertitles actually intrigued me the most
"a catastrophe is the first verse of a love poem"
the commentators under the blog post are saying that godard has used this phrase before - twice, in his films "detective" and "passion".
and now for the third time. godard, the master of quotation...
I really like what the aforementioned blogger does with that phrase in the end. he writes:
A love poem is the first stroke of a catastrophe
